✨ Meet Beverly Kirk – Our April Guild Presenter! ✨
We are so excited to welcome Beverly Huggins Kirk, a master quilter, educator, and award-winning fiber artist whose work beautifully blends storytelling, history, and bold artistic expression.
Raised in Oklahoma, Beverly attended segregated elementary and high schools—an experience that deeply influences the powerful narratives woven into her quilts. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Langston University in 1992, followed by a Master’s degree in Adult Education from University of Central Oklahoma.
Beverly’s lifelong love of sewing grew from student to teacher to master artist. She is widely recognized for her bold, colorful narrative quilts—each piece telling a story, sparking emotion, and inviting meaningful conversation. As the founder of Oklahoma’s first African American quilt guild, Scissor Tales Guild, she has played a vital role in building community, preserving culture, and mentoring others through quilting.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries, universities, and museums across Oklahoma and the United States, earning numerous awards and national recognition. Her quilts have been featured in Journey of Hope and And Still We Rise by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi, and she has appeared as a featured panelist at the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art.
In her studio, Beverly transforms fabric into powerful works of art—balancing precision with improvisation. She teaches the “perfect points” of quilting while also encouraging creativity that breaks the rules with vibrant color and design.
As an African American artist, her quilts carry deep emotional and cultural significance. They are more than beautiful—they are stories that inspire conversation and social change.
Today, Beverly enjoys retirement surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren—continuing to create, teach, and inspire through every stitch.
