Open invitation to all to attend the April 20th 2026 In-person meeting of Burroughs Audubon Society on "Four Seasons In the Sax-Zim Bog". The presenter is Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus, Head Naturalist of the Friends of Sax-Zim Bog. This meeting is paired with an extended June field-trip that will be led by Malcolm Gold to the Minnesota Northwoods. For that field trip, we'll coordinate with Clinton to focus on the goals and interests of the participants. This presentation is one you will not want to miss! Whether you want to attend the field trip in June, want to plan your own visit to the Sax-Zim Bog area, or simply want to learn about the amazing taiga habitat of the Minnesota Northwoods. Clinton's passion and excitement for all things nature is contagious.
Presentation Overview:
The Sax-Zim Bog is perhaps best known for winter bird watching opportunities, especially for those folks interested in northern owls, finches, and boreal forest specialists. What many visitors don't realize during a winter visit is that a number of the species, for which they brave ice, snow, and temperatures well below zero, are resident and can be seen year round! The greater Sax-Zim Bog ecosystem has a lot to offer in every season, playing host to diverse ecology and biology year round. This presentation will cover some background on the region, learn a little about the Friends of Sax-Zim Bog, and highlight the seasons and what makes this place so unique! If you have been wanting to visit the area, but haven't been able to decide when, this talk will serve as a great introduction as to how to visit and when to visit the Sax-Zim Bog!
