Applique All-Occasion Greeting Cards with Kris Livingston

Delight recipients with a unique card for holidays, weddings, birthdays, or any other occasion. Fabric applique is sewn directly onto the paper card. Many embellishments can be added. This fun class will include many tips, ideas, and even patterns to get you started and inspired.

By the end of the class, students will have the skills and confidence to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind cards for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.

Students should bring: a sewing machine, several colors of thread and bobbins, and scissors. Fabric, some threads, and patterns will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own fabric scraps for a personal touch.

Supply list

• Pack of blank cards and a pack of envelopes (Available at craft stores or paper supply stores.). Kris suggests a neutral color for the cards to bring focus to the appliques.
• Any light to medium fusible interfacing. Double fusible, such as Wonder-Under is helpful for layered cards.
• A variety of fabrics. Small prints work well.
• Fabric marking pen.
• Sewing machine with zig zag.
• Thread to coordinate with your fabrics. You can use regular thread or decorative thread, such as Sulky brand.
• Bobbin thread to match your cards.
• Basic sewing kit with scissors, straight pins, and a seam ripper.
• Basic glue stick. (From the school supply section.)

Kris Livingston (she/her) has loved sewing since childhood. She has over 30 years of professional experience working in theater costume design, custom home furnishings, children’s applique for retail, as well as a teacher. Kris aims to spark joy with her designs, products, and teaching.
