The tradition of Apple Day began in 1990, launched by Common Ground, a community conservation and environmental education charity. It began as a way to bring people together, campaigning for an Autumn holiday, using the apple literally and symbolically to promote the importance of local heritage, diversity and distinctiveness.
We are proud of our more than 100 varieties of apples in our garden, including our Yorkshire-grown National Collection. Our garden showcases the multitudinous ways to grow an apple tree, and indeed, that you can fit a decent fruit-yielding tree into a small space. We have traditionally grown orchard trees, as well as those that are step-over, cordoned, espaliered and arch-trained.
You’ll be able to see our Yorkshire National Collection of apples, and learn more about some of the stories they have to tell.
We’ll have our special apple trail for those who like to solve a mystery.
There will most certainly be bags of apples for sale.

The Vine House Café will also be serving a delectable choice of apple-baked goods too.
Gates to the Garden open at 10am and last entry is at 4pm. Dogs on leads are welcome through-out the garden, shop and café.
Paid garden entry required. Residents passes and memberships are valid for entry at the kiosk.
