Appalachian Trail Work Day

Addressing erosion and water drainage is a critical part of trail maintenance, especially on a trail that sees more than 3,000 thru-hikers and countless more day, weekend, and section hikers per year! Please join us to help work on a section of the Appalachian Trail on the Pawling Nature Reserve, where we will contribute to the long-term sustainability of this National Scenic Trail. There will be tasks for all fitness levels after a moderate 0.5 mile hike to the site. Come ready to work and learn about rolling grade dips, water bar maintenance, and more. The hike will be moderate with some steep sections, with about 200 feet of elevation gain over the 0.5 mile hike in.

Lunch will be provided.

Parking: There is a parking lot with space for about 4 cars. Additional cars can park along Quaker Lake Road. (It’s a quiet dirt road not many cars drive down.)

NOTE: Duell Hollow Road is CLOSED to the north of our work site, you must approach from the south, on Quaker Lake Road!

**The road between the Quaker Lake Rd and Duell Hollow Brook Rd (to the north) has been decommissioned by the town due to major landslides. The road is impassable, so participants planning to drive from points north should keep this in mind. Google maps tends to forget that this section of road is closed.**
