A real discussion about war, madness, spectacle, command, and a film that still feels dangerous.
About this Event

🔥🚁 Apocalypse Now - war, madness, spectacle, and the end of command

Movie discussion - watch beforehand. No screening.

Short summary

Some movies are about war.
Apocalypse Now feels more like war having a fever dream about itself.
It is huge, beautiful, obscene, hypnotic, ridiculous, and rotten in a way that still makes most modern war movies look too clean.
This is not just a Vietnam film.
It is about command breaking down, spectacle replacing meaning, violence turning mystical, men losing the ability to tell the difference between mission and madness.
That is why it still deserves a room.
Not because it is “important cinema.”
Because it is still disturbing.
A movie this visually powerful should make us suspicious of our own attention.

A few questions already sitting in my head

  • “Is the movie condemning spectacle, or seducing us with it?”
  • “At what point does the mission stop making sense?”
  • “Is Kurtz insane, honest, monstrous, or just what the war was already becoming?”
  • “What does the film understand about command and masculinity?”
  • “Which scene felt most impossible to forget?”
  • “Does the movie have a moral center, or is that exactly what has collapsed?”

How the afternoon will go

Come having watched the film beforehand.
We’ll start with one question:
“What scene still feels lodged in your nervous system?”
Then we’ll stay close to the film: Willard, Kurtz, the river, the helicopters, the spectacle, the horror, and the feeling that order has become a costume.
Not trivia.
Not film-bro monologues.
Not war-movie ranking night.
A real discussion.
