CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The APIC 092 Conference Committee is excited to announce a new opportunity for attendees of the 2024 Fall APIC 092 Conference, Winds of Change, taking place November 1, 2024, in Lake Mary, Florida. The Committee invites all attendees to submit an abstract for poster presentation to highlight the great work at your facility and gain invaluable experience presenting on a local stage.

Our goal is to provide attendees with an opportunity to create an abstract, obtain feedback from Committee reviewers, and develop a poster presentation that aligns with National APIC guidelines. Deadline for National APIC submission will shortly follow so this is a great opportunity to perfect your work prior to submission to the National Conference. Submission and presentation at the Chapter Conference will not impact your ability to submit the work at the National Conference.

How to submit

Submit completed abstract application using the template below by September 13, 2024. The Committee will review all submissions from September 14-19, 2024. Acceptance or rejection notification for all submissions will be sent between September 20-27,2024.

Abstract Requirements

Word limit: No more than 300 words

1. Title: Clear and concise title reflecting the content of the presentation.

2. Background: Provide a brief background and describe study objectives, hypothesis tested, and/or problem addressed.

a. This section should be written in present tense and answers the question: “What is the importance of this study?”

b. A traditional format includes a description of the importance of the field, definition of the problem, and outline of the research question and objective.

3. Methods: Describe study design, including setting, sample, sample size, subjects, intervention, and/or type of statistical analysis. This section should be written in past tense.

a. A traditional format indicates the study design, subjects, and time frame; outlines the study variables; and defines the statistical analysis.

b. Do not include any numbers outside of time frame or the number of facilities (if a multicenter study) in this section. Reserve all numbers for the results section.

4. Results: Summarize essential results as clearly as possible with appropriate statistical analysis. This section should be written in past tense.

a. Ensure that each result has a method included in the methods section.

b. Ensure that each method outlined in the methods section has a corresponding result in the results section.

c. If you have too many results, you need to limit the methods provided in the abstract.

d. You can have more methods in the poster than you do in the abstract. Just provide the most important result in the abstract.

e. The results should be described in the same order as the methods described in the methods section.

5. Conclusion: Interpret the study findings. Conclusions must be supported by the results. Concisely summarize implications of the results.

a. This section answers the question “So what?” and is written in present tense.

b. Do not state “Future studies are needed” or “A randomized trial is needed”—the goal is to provide implications in this section. More studies are always needed.

c. Ensure that all conclusions are supported by the results.
