Please join us this Fall in enchanting Santa Fe for the American Planning Association New Mexico Chapter’s 2026 State Planning Conference. This year’s theme is “Planning Close to Home: Good Neighbors, Great Places.” The conference will be held during National Planning Month, from October 28th-30th, in the heart of our vibrant downtown. Planners, practitioners and community partners are invited to come learn, network, and explore the City Different – while considering how to care for neighbors in all our communities through both placemaking and policy.
In partnership with the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County, local projects and solutions will be discussed, all within the broader context of shifting national policies that affect our towns and neighborhoods, the economy, and our shared natural resources. In the current era of diminishing federal support, local action is critical in addressing local problems. New Mexico planners are looking closer to home for ways to build homegrown resilience, provide for our communities’ needs, and protect all that we treasure. Leveraging local assets and mobilizing our communities is more important than ever. Following this approach, the conference will feature educational sessions and mobile workshops on topics such as: hyperlocal economic and environmental resilience; best practices for ensuring equity and access; promoting cultural identity; providing diverse housing types for changing demographics; flexible options for public transportation; smart infrastructure design for climate events; using technology to enhance government transparency; and more.
