AJO Jazz Improvisation Workshops
The Aotearoa Jazz Orchestra is pleased to present the next instalment of its jazz improvisation workshop series.
Hosted by cross-genre performer Oscar Lavën, alongside a professional jazz rhythm section, these highly accessible workshops are designed to help musicians build confidence in improvisation through listening, playing, and creative exploration. Particularly suited to musicians from a classical background, the workshops are open to players of all instruments, ages, and musical backgrounds.
Participants in previous workshops praised the supportive atmosphere, practical learning, and encouragement they received while exploring new musical ideas. Whether you're taking your first steps into improvisation or looking to deepen existing skills, these sessions are designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment in which to experiment, learn, and grow as a musician.
Advanced
The Advanced workshop is for musicians who already have some experience with improvisation and jazz playing, or players with more advanced technique looking to dive deeper into the language of jazz.
Participants will take an in-depth look at playing jazz standards with the rhythm section, explore different styles and traditions, develop listening skills, and gain musical insights from the professional musicians leading the workshop.
Workshop places are limited, allowing plenty of opportunity for individual participation, discussion, and playing time with the rhythm section.
