Anthony Pateras is a composer, pianist & electronic musician.Pateras has been commissioned throughout Europe, the USA & Australia by INA-GRM, Südwestrundfunk Baden-Baden, Australian Chamber Orchestra, ensemble]h[iatus, Lampo, Kitchen Orchestra, ONCEIM, Ensemble Dedalus, Third Coast Percussion, the Australian Art Orchestra & the Astra Chamber Music Society.
His concert music's been performed by, among others, the LA Philharmonic, BBC, Toronto & Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, Brett Dean & the International Contemporary Ensemble.
He’s written numerous percussion pieces, played by Sinfonieorchester Basel, Drumming GP, Slagwerkgroep den Haag, Vanessa Tomlinson, Diego Espinosa, Eklekto, Synergy & Speak.
Pateras has himself performed hundreds of concerts throughout Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia & Aotearoa since 1999.
Anthony's work has been recognised with the Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship, residencies at Cité des Arts, La Becque, Akademie Schloss Solitude & Montalvo Arts Center, and fellowships from Creative Victoria & the Ian Potter Foundation. He is a joint recipient of the ZKM Giga-Hertz Produktionspreise (w/ Valerio Tricoli) and is a Sidney Myer Creative Fellow.
Additionally, he’s soundtracked numerous short films, recently scoring visual artist Yves Netzhammer’s debut animated feature Reise der Schatten, as well as working in galleries such as Martin-Gropuis-Bau, Centre Pompidou, Foundaçao Serralves, Henie Onstad & Haus Konstruktiv.
Pateras has released over 50 albums for labels such as Tzadik, Editions Mego, Ipecac, Another Timbre, Futura Resistenza, Shelter Press, Hallow Ground and runs his own Immediata imprint.
He has co-founded and performed in the Pateras/Baxter/Brown & North of North trios, the piano-drums grindcore duo PIVIXKI, the electro-acoustic ensembles Thymolphthalein & Twitch, the abstract hip-hop quartet Beta Erko, and the experimental rock bands Sulla Lingua & tētēma.
Other collaborations include Erkki Veltheim, Slave Pianos, Christos Tsiolkas, Jérôme Noetinger, studio LABOUR, Marco Fusinato, The Necks, Natasha Anderson, Sylvère Lotringer, Anthony Burr & Sunn O))).
