About this Event
New Mexico played a key role in the photography of Ansel Adams, whose first portfolio book was 1930’s Taos Pueblo. In many subsequent visits he produced influential images of our landscape, churches, architecture, and people. This presentation, using many examples of his work, will explore how New Mexico shaped his aesthetic practice and how his darkroom techniques evolved over time. We’ll also consider his work within the larger context of his beliefs about the spiritual dimensions of photography and his life-long activism on behalf of conservation and the preservation of the natural universe.
Presenter
Gregory Jay is Professor Emeritus at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His previous Renesan courses included Holocaust Literature, the Harlem Renaissance, and the work of Georgia O’Keeffe in New Mexico.
