The African American Military History Museum invites the community to its Annual Veterans Open House on Wednesday November 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the museum located at 305 East 6th Street Hattiesburg MS
This annual celebration honors the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans. Guests are encouraged to come and go throughout the event enjoy refreshments and connect with local veterans and supporters.
A special highlight of the day will be the announcement of the 2025 Alvin Eaton Champion Award recipient at 11:30 a.m. This award honors an individual or organization that has shown outstanding dedication to supporting and serving veterans.
The award pays tribute to Staff Sergeant Alvin Eaton a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War whose vision and leadership were instrumental in restoring the historic East Sixth Street USO—now home to the museum. Beyond his military service Eaton’s commitment to community uplift was evident through his work with WDAM the City of Hattiesburg and civic organizations including the Boy Scouts of America Forrest County NAACP and the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce.
The Veterans Open House is free and open to the public. All veterans in attendance will receive a special token of appreciation as a gesture of gratitude for their service.
