About this Event

Are you looking to make a difference in our City? Join the City of Griffin on Saturday, October 24, 2026 for the Annual Stream and Union Cemetery Cleanup!

The Annual Stream Clean-up is a long celebrated community event that brings together the citizens of Griffin-Spalding County to make their county a better (and cleaner!) place. This year, the Annual Stream Cleanup is one of five events in the 2026 Griffin Gives Back Historic Union Cemetery Cleanup. Overgrown and in need of some help, we are trimming back invading plants and bring it back to a place of peace and honor. Plus, we are celebrating a very special milestone this year. Twenty years of coming together to care for our waterways, of community and good fellowship.

The focus of this event will be stream locations across the city, but will also send a dedicated crew of volunteers to Union cemetery to cut and clear vines, underbrush and debris. We will be starting at Historic City Hall at 9am for a safety talk and sign-in. Individuals and groups that register will be assigned to a stream location or the cemetery. After removing and disposing of trash and debris from our local waterways, rights of way, and the cemetery, the volunteers will head back to Historic City Hall for lunch, group photo, door prizes, and congratulations for a job well done!

Register by Friday, October 12 to receive lunch and a door prize ticket! If the event has sold out before October 12, please contact Alexa Robinson at [email protected]. Individuals or groups registering after the event has sold out are NOT guaranteed lunch.

What are we providing? We will provide garbage bags, gloves, grabbers, loppers, shovels, vests, water, and snacks and lunch!

What should you bring/wear? Clothing you don’t mind getting dirty! Waterproof boots if you plan on adventuring in one of the streams! Bug spray, hat, and clothing that will protect your arms and legs. If you have tools for the cemetery cleanup, you are welcome to bring them and use them at your own risk.

What about transportation? Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation to and from stream/cemetery sites. Carpooling is encouraged! The City will provide maps marking optional locations for parking throughout the district.

How do I learn more about the 2026 Griffin Gives Back Cleanup events? We will be seeking volunteers for the final event in this series which will be held on and December 1 on Giving Tuesday. Sign ups will be through Eventbrite, so check the City of Griffin Stormwater Eventbrite page and the City of Griffin Facebook for details. Please contact Kelsey Carden, [email protected], if you have questions about the Union Cemetery Project.
