It’s that time of year when I flood your Facebook with posts about the annual blood drive and educational information on type 3 vonwillebrand disease. This year it will be at First Ave Church again, you can book through the app under team appointments, if those times don’t work, as long as you are on her team you can donate any time, any day, anywhere and they will go towards her teams pledges for the year. Why a blood drive? When Rielynn was diagnosed at 10.5 months with type 3 vonwillebrand disease, our world was forever changed. We were prepared and had a feeling it would be her diagnosis after research and hearing the word a few times at appointments but no one is ever prepared for when it is reality. Instead of dwelling on her diagnosis I wanted to do something positive so why not a blood drive in honour of Rielynn for her birthday every year? Within days after her diagnosis I talked to someone from Canadian blood services, created her team, set a goal of 30 donations total from her team each year and first it started with a group message with family and friends to making an event every year because so many people want to support our little girl. The first year we filled 40 spots. This year life is a lot busier so I’ve only committed myself to try to motivate 20 of you to donate for Rielynn’s birthday.
