Mi fydd Ani Glass, yr artist arobryn o Gaerdydd, yn lansio ei halbwm newydd ‘Phantasmagoria’ ar y 26ain o Fedi. Ac am siwrne i gyrraedd y pwynt yma. Roedd albwm gyntaf Ani ‘Mirores’ (ei henw barddol yng ngorsedd Cernyw) yn seiliedig ar symudiad a chynnydd. Dyma oedd ei hymgais gyntaf yn recordio a chynhyrchu ac nid yw Ani Glass wedi rhoi’r gorau i symud ers hynny.

Ysbrydolwyd wrth weithio gyda’r cynhyrchydd Martin Rushent fel aelod o'r grŵp The Pipettes, a hynny ar ôl ei chyfnod fel aelod o'r band pop, Genie Queen (a reolwyd gan Andy McCluskey o’r grŵp OMD). Mae artistiaid a chynhyrchwyr y 1980au Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre ac Arthur Russell (a'i hysbrydolodd i ddysgu'r sielo) hefyd yn ddylanwadol iawn ar waith Ani.

Yn fuan ar ôl rhyddhau ‘Mirores’ yn 2020 cafodd Ani ddiagnosis o diwmor ar yr ymennydd anfalaen prin. Roedd y diagnosis yn ddechrau ar daith bersonol i Ani sydd wedi siapio ei halbwm newydd, albwm cysyniadol mewnsyllgar sy’n plymio’n ddwfn i’w phrofiad o ffeindio ei ffordd trwy fywyd gyda’r diagnosis.

Mae’r albwm yn un amlieithog ac yn cynnwys geiriau yn y Gymraeg, yn y Gernyweg ac mewn Saesneg. Mae Ani hefyd yn plethu ychydig o BSL (iaith arwyddo) i’w pherfformiadau byw. Clywir adlais o waith cynnar y band Goldfrapp, ynghyd ag awgrymiadau o lais cerddoriaeth Enya.

Chwaer Fawr yw prosiect unigol Mari Morgan. Wedi cyfnodau gyda Rogue Jones, Bitw a Saron, cafodd ei halbwm unigol cyntaf, 'Diwedd', ei recordio'n araf bach gartref, ar ôl blynyddoedd o chwarae ym mandiau pobl eraill. Y tro hwn, cawn gyfle i glywed ei llais hi. Gyda llond llaw o hen ffrindiau'n ymuno â hi ar lwyfan i'w chwarae'n fyw, nid yw'r caneuon yn ceisio cysylltu'r dotiau ar eich rhan chi; mae nhw'n gadael i bethau eistedd, yn gadael lle, yn gadael i'r broses ddangos. Ac er mai 'Diwedd' yw teitl yr albwm, megis dechrau mae Chwaer Fawr.

“Music for the end of the world, and the start of a new one” (Pitchfork)

Award winning, Cardiff-based artist, Ani Glass, launches her new album ‘Phantasmagoria’ on the 26th of September. What a journey to this moment. Fittingly, Ani’s debut LP ‘Mirores’ (translates as “observer”) was based around movement and progress. It was her first foray into the self-taught art of recording and production. Ani Glass has not stopped progressing or moving, since.

Inspired by working with Martin Rushent as a member of indiepop group, The Pipettes, a strong pop sensibility was cemented as a member of the band, Genie Queen (managed by OMD’s Andy McCluskey. Additional inspirations included 1980s artists and producers Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre and Arthur Russell (who inspired her to learn the cello).

At the start of 2020, just before the release of ‘Mirores’, Ani was diagnosed with a rare benign brain tumour. The diagnosis marked the beginning of the personal journey that has shaped ‘Phantasmagoria’. That final shape is a lush, introspective concept album that delves deeply into her experience of navigating life since then.

Phantasmagoria unites the languages and mediums at Ani’s disposal to express a poignant time in her life, with lyrics in Cymraeg (Welsh), Kernewek (Cornish) and English, as well as some British Sign Language woven into her live performance.

Futuristic, fascinating pop. Ethereal vocals, lush instrumentation and swirling synth pulses echo early Goldfrapp or Enya but this is all Ani Glass, Phantasmagoria is intricate, ethereal, expansive - and newly revealing with every listen.

Chwaer Fawr is the solo project of Mari Morgan, known for her time with Rogue Jones, Bitw and Saron. Her debut solo album, oxymoronically titled 'Diwedd' ('end'), pulls inward – created slowly, at home and with friends, after years of playing in other people’s bands. This time, it's her own quietly defiant voice that's front and centre. Joined onstage by a handful of trusted collaborators, the songs from 'Diwedd' don’t rush to explain themselves; they sit with things, leave space, let the edges show. It might not seem like a grand statement, but it'll stay with you long past the end.
