ANGELA MONTOYA at Stanford University Bookstore
About this Event
Join us at the Stanford University Bookstore for a book chat with Angela Montoya, author of Cruel Thirst and Sinner's Isle, as we discuss her latest novel Carnival Fantástico, followed by a signing.
Carnival Fantástico is an unputdownable romantasy following a young woman posing as fortune-teller at a magical traveling carnival, where the handsome boy who once broke her heart resurfaces and warns her that the carnival is more sinister than it appears.
Event format: Moderated chat with the bookstore, followed by an open Q&A and a book signing.
About the author: Angela Montoya comes from a family of storytellers with revolutionary ideas, including her grandfather, José Montoya, who was a celebrated activist and poet laureate. She has been obsessed with the magic of storytelling since she was a little girl. She hasn’t seen a day without a book in her hand, a show tune in her mind, or a movie quote on her lips.
Her debut novel, SINNER’S ISLE, has received starred reviews from Kirkus and Publishers Weekly and trade reviews from Booklist and The Bulletin. Her award-winning sophomore novel, A CRUEL THIRST, was named a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, an Editor's Pick: Best YA of December by Amazon Books, and one of the Best YA Books of the Year by Kirkus Reviews. Her third novel, CARNIVAL FANTÁSTICO, was chosen as a March/April 2026 Kids’ Indie Next Pick.
When she isn’t lost in the world of words, Angela can be found co-hosting the podcast, Of the Publishing Persuasion or hiding away on her small farm in Northern California where she’s busy bossing around her partner, their two children, as well as a whole host of animals.
Copies of Carnival Fantástico will be available for purchase in-store.
