This quintet is a stellar line-up of some of Bristol’s very best, and will need no introduction to regulars at Jazz at the Bristol Music Club. Andy Hague is a composer and arranger of the top order, who leads bands of various line-ups, from quartets, quintets and big bands.
Ben Waghorn is a leading name in the UK scene. Equally at home with mainstream and contemporary jazz styles, Ben has performed with Keith Tippett Tapestry Orchestra, Damon Brown, Andy Sheppard, Gilad Atzmon and Steve Waterman. He currently plays with many groups including his own quartet and the Dave Stapleton Quintet
Jim Blomfield is known for his versatility and musical sensitivity, he has worked across jazz, Afro- Cuban, Latin, rock, funk and contemporary music, and has been involved in a wide range of projects emerging from Bristol’s diverse musical culture. Jim has frequently been the pianist of choice for visiting jazz artists past and present, including Andy Sheppard, Barbara Thompson, Pete King and John Etheridge to name just a few.
Henrik Jensen is a distinguished Danish bassist and composer who has become a prominent figure on the UK jazz scene. He moved to London from Denmark in 1997 to study electric bass at The Musicians Institute. Recognizing his passion for the double bass. He has performed extensively as a bandleader and a sideman and was part of the New Simplicity Trio which was released on Babel.
Mark Whitlam
Versatility, creative flair and great feel have established Mark as one of the first-call players in the South West. Putting the needs of the music first is at the centre of his approach, Mark is a passionate, authoritative and authentic performer. Mark has performed live and/or recorded with some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians, including ECM artists Andy Sheppard and Iain Ballamy as a member of their respect quartets, Clare Teal, Jason Rebello (Sting, Jeff Beck), Claire Martin, Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown), and Jim Mullen (Average White Band) and cross-genre artist collaborations with Goldfrapp's Will Gregory, Portishead's Adrian Utley and BBC Proms conductor Charles Hazlewood.
