About this Event
Bassist Andrew Cleyndert brings an all-star, all-swinging quartet to Twickenham Jazz Club for a night steeped in Latin American music. Expect a thoroughly swinging Brazilian affair, however - exploring not only the timeless compositions of Jobim et al, but also compositions by the likes of Eliane Elias, Toninho Horta, Villa-Lobos, and Piazzolla.
Cleyndert, Newton, and Oxley have shared stages in various collaborations over decades, releasing the album Out of This World on Trio Records in 2013. Pianist David Newton has legions of fans across the jazz world, renowned for his musical touch, lyrical harmonic invention, and swinging drive. Colin Oxley complements him perfectly—a complete master of jazz guitar, recently bracketed with Joe Pass by legendary US bassist Carol Kaye. Joining the trio is the towering, unflappable trumpet/flugel talent of Steve Fishwick, delivering solo after solo of breathtaking improvisation.
Andrew Cleyndert himself needs little introduction to regular jazz fans. With an illustrious four-and-a-half-decade career as one of the UK's premier bassists and a record producer of over fifty albums on his own label, his extensive credits speak to his highest regard in the jazz world.
