Glasgow Print Studio is delighted to present Land, a series of new screenprint editions by Scottish artist Andrea McIlhatton Cardow. Developed during a 2023 residency on the Isle of Skye, the works explore how landscape, memory, and human presence intersect, capturing the atmosphere, history, and emotional resonance of place.
Cardow draws inspiration from reflections in lochs, silhouettes of land and sky, and the subtle presence of flora. Using photographs as a starting point, she combines multiple layers and processes to create screenprints that reflect her personal experiences and memories, alongside the enduring history held within the land itself. The series also contemplates the imprint of humanity on nature, including fleeting traces of human life, such as clothing, becoming part of the earth over time.
A long-time member of Glasgow Print Studio, Cardow has exhibited widely across Scotland, including the studio’s Featured Artist series (2019, 2025), Love of Print at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum (2022), and Island Residencies (2025). Her practice combines a deep connection to place with traditional printmaking techniques, resulting in works that are both visually striking and conceptually rich.
