"Unseen Narratives" is a powerful solo exhibition that delves into the complexities of identity, social inequality, and human resilience expressed through alternative process photography. Featuring three distinct series by the artist Boyce Clark, the exhibition explores themes ranging from homelessness and mental health to economic disparity and the untold stories of those living on the fringe.
The first series, "You Know Me", presents intimate portraits of unhoused individuals from Athens, GA, New Orleans, LA, and Rome, Italy, printed on Medic*tion prescription guides using the Van Dyke Brown process, sparking dialogue about the intersection of mental illness and homelessness. "Stories Not Told" juxtaposes portraits from the Mississippi Delta onto the cold financial pages and vainglorious lifestyle pages of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, revealing the stark divide between wealth and poverty in America. The third series, "Unexpected," takes viewers on a journey through experimental techniques with Kallitypes, cyanotypes, and prints on unconventional materials like vintage road maps and instruction manuals, expanding the narrative potential of each image. Together, these series invite reflection on societal narratives often left unseen, urging us to reconsider how we see one another and the world around us.
