"Unlikely Heroes of Faith in Our Time" – Rev. Dr. Chuck Robertson

Join Rev. Dr. Chuck as he shares stories of contemporary saints in the church over the course of four lectures. An excellent scholar and gifted speaker, The Rev. Dr. Chuck Robertson is Canon and Senior Advisor to the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. He holds a Ph.D. from Durham University and honorary doctorates from several institutions, is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a distinguished speaker and author. Below are descriptions of the four sessions. All sessions will be held in the Parish Hall.

Session 1: Sunday Forum, Nov. 8, 11:15 am, “Oscar Romero”

A quiet scholar-bishop finds the courage to become the voice of the suffering people of El Salvador, standing up to a repressive government at the cost of his life.

This is the start of four lectures over three days. Attend one or all.

Session 2: Sunday, Nov. 8, 6 pm, “Dorothy Day”

A social activist discovers the healing love of Jesus and dedicates her life to helping the poor and standing up to a Church that is threatened by her boldness. Reception to follow.

Session 3: Monday, Nov. 9, 6 pm, “Desmond Tutu”

A former teacher from a poor family goes on to capture the world’s attention by confronting apartheid head-on and preparing the way for a new age in South Africa. Reception to follow.

Session 4: Tuesday, Nov. 10, 6 pm, “Li Tim Oi, the Philadelphia 11, and Their Successors”

The ongoing struggles for, and often hostile opposition against, women’s ordination move from Hong Kong to Philadelphia, Boston, and Columbus…and eventually to the throne of St. Augustine in Canterbury.

7 pm dinner in the Parish Hall with Rev. Dr. Robertson for registered attendees.
