A seven time Grammy winner, Mr. Frohman literally "lived" the New York Salsa/Latin Jazz scene through his 25-year stint as a key member of the legendary Tito Puente Orchestra as also as part of the Mongo Santamaria band for many years. He is now a bandleader in his own right as a founder of the Mambo Legends Orchestra and as a leader of his own Latin Jazz Quartet, which released a critically acclaimed CD "From Daddy With Love".
Mr. Frohman is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the idiom, having been awarded Latin Jazz USA's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. He has collaborated with all of the greats - Celia Cruz, Joe Cuba, Chico O'Farrill, Machito, Eddie Palmieri, and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra - to name just a few! You've probably heard his signature sound on commercial recordings also, such as the theme song from Sex In The City, Paul Simon and Cyndi Lauper.
Don't miss this special chance to hear this legendary music directly from the source! .
The event takes place at Stanford's Dinkelspiel Auditorium on the Stanford campus on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 PM. Advance tickets are available online for $32 general/$27 students and seniors.
Established in 2008 by Grammy-nominated pianist Murray Low, the ensemble has emerged as one of the premier academic performing groups of its kind. As prior recipients of a prestigious SiCA (Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts) grant, SALJE has been affored the opportunity to collaborate with several luminaries in the field of Afro-Latin music that have helped to elevate the ensemble's performance acumen, as well as aid in establishing Stanford as a vital West Coast center for Afro-Latin Jazz.
