As obituaries fade as historical records, preserving family histories becomes increasingly urgent. How can we capture our loved ones' stories before they disappear? Shandra Martinez, a journalist and storyteller with over 30 years of experience, shows how to turn smartphones into tools for creating compelling mini-documentaries. By blending photos and documents hidden away in boxes with narrative storytelling, families can craft videos that preserve their histories for future generations. Shandra teaches how to structure interviews to draw out meaningful stories, ask follow-up questions to uncover essential context, and transform those details into engaging, organized videos. Combining journalistic methods with modern technology, Shandra empowers families to create clear, rich, and lasting legacies. This event is part of the Zeeland Historical Society's School Bell Series, which highlights local topics and features local speakers. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served.
