"The Six Triple Eight" Film Screening at the Military Women's Memorial

Join us at the Military Women's Memorial as we celebrate Women's History Month with a special screening of the film "The Six Triple Eight." This in-person event will take you on a journey through the incredible story of the only all-female, predominantly all Black unit to serve overseas during World War II.

Special Guest Speaker

Elizabeth Helm-Frazier retired from the United States Army as a Master Sergeant after more than 25 years of distinguished service. Throughout her military career, she held a variety of high-profile leadership roles in personnel management (MOS 75E) and career counseling (MOS 79S), earning recognition as U.S. Army TRADOC’s Career Counselor of the Year and San Antonio’s Mentor of the Year. In honor of her impact and leadership, she was inducted into the Army Women’s Foundation Hall of Fame.

Since retiring in 2006, Elizabeth has continued her life of service with unwavering dedication — particularly to preserving the legacy of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Passionate about ensuring their story is never forgotten, she helped lead efforts to build a monument honoring the 6888th at Fort Leavenworth, served as a producer of the critically acclaimed documentary The Six Triple Eight, and played a key role in the successful effort to award the unit the Congressional Gold Medal.

Through her advocacy, storytelling, and tireless commitment, Elizabeth ensures that the courage, perseverance, and extraordinary service of the women of the 6888th continue to inspire generations.

"The Six Triple Eight" film

The film, written and directed by Tyler Perry, tells the story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all female, predominantly all Black unit, serving during WWII. The 6888 contributed to the war effort in a unique way: by sorting through a three-year backlog of undelivered mail and delivering the mail to American soldiers far from home on the front lines in Europe, an almost insurmountable task. In the face of discrimination and a vast, unfamiliar country divided by global conflict, these 855 women brought hope to the front lines. “No mail, low morale” was the motto they gave themselves, and they fulfilled the promise of delivered mail (17 million pieces of it!) and morale when the United States needed it most.

Joining Kerry Washington, our Military Women’s Memorial 2024 Patriot Leadership Award Recipient, who plays Major Charity Adams, in the film’s ensemble cast are Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Gregg Sulkin, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to honor the brave women who made history.
