Many have never heard, or know very little, about the rising tide of the KKK in America during the 1920s, especially right here in our own state of Colorado. Historian Meg Dunn will give an overview of how the Ku Klux Klan was revived in 1915, invited to Colorado, and spread to every region of the state, including Northern Colorado. White Coloradans took what had previously been a Southern institution and made it their own, normalizing hatred in a way that made it not only acceptable, but highly regarded by many. While heartbreaking, it is part of our local history that we should all know and understand. About the Presenter:
Meg Dunn is a University of Michigan graduate and was formerly a math teacher in both Detroit and San Francisco. She transitioned to volunteering in the Poudre School District when her kids entered elementary school in 2003. Thus began her “full-time volunteer” career. In 2014, Meg took over the Forgotten Fort Collins website, which morphed into NorthernColoradoHistory.com in 2017. She sat on the Fort Collins Historic Preservation Commission for nine years and is currently the president of the Fort Collins Historical Society and vice-president on the board of Historic Larimer County.
