Anne Nelson (the playwright), a writer working in New York City at the time of the 9-11 attacks, was asked by a friend if she would meet with a fire captain who had lost most of his men responding to the Towers. He needed her assistance to prepare eulogies he would be delivering at his men’s services. She met with him many times. Ms. Nelson wrote this play in honor of her meetings with the fire captain and in honor of all the responders lost and injured due to the attacks. Both characters are fictionalized for the play. The fire captain remains anonymous.
David Rook responded to World Trade Center on 9-11 after the collapse as a member of New York Rapid Response Team–1 (NYRRT-1), a specialized group of rescue workers trained to respond to catastrophic building collapses.
The men and women of NYRRT-1 formed the Capital District Urban/Technical Search Rescue Association (a 501(c)(3) not-for profit). Capital District Urban/Technical Search Rescue Association (CDUTSAR) has sponsored this event.
The event is free. Donations will be accepted at the door and virtually for the Capital District Urban/Technical Search Rescue Association that continues their work in support of the rescue community.
