About the book
In Snake Skin, Kurt Olson maps the rivers, wheat fields, mill towns, back roads, and stubborn longings of the inland Northwest. These poems move between the Snake River and the Palouse, Moscow and Spokane, tracing the complicated pull of places we flee but never entirely leave behind. Along the way, Olson writes with tenderness and unsparing wit about working-class life, restless youth, love, family, and the illness and death of a mother. Chainsaws dream, cities drink and weep, memory clings like a fishhook, and a familiar recipe becomes an impossible act of mourning. Gritty, musical, and darkly funny, Snake Skin is a book about the selves we shed and the selves that follow us—about leaving home, returning in memory, and learning to inhabit the tender new skin beneath.

About the author
Kurt Olson is a poet and playwright from eastern Washington State. His work has appeared in literary journals, style magazines, city hall art installations, the Spokane 50 Hour Film Slam, and stages across the U.S. He has taught poetry workshops to grade school children, adults, and every age in between. He is also the co-founder of Broken Mic, a weekly poetry open mic in Spokane, currently in its 16th year.
But mostly he is a stay-at-home dad who has worked a lot of minimum wage jobs. He currently resides in Spokane with his brilliant wife Aleah and their child.

He didn't include it in his bio, but Kurt is also a beloved employee of Auntie's Bookstore.
