Join us in person at our Museum or on Zoom to learn about history and conservation at the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant. Frank Wolf will discuss his first-hand knowledge of "Single Base Production at Badger Army Ammunition Plant."Single Base is the propellant for most ammunition used by the military. In this talk, Frank will explain how Single Base Propellant was made at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant (BAAP) in the old days. Lecture content will provide an overview of Single Base, and then describe the manufacturing process that was used at BAAP. There will be a lot of pictures of the buildings and equipment. Materials, utilities and personnel required will be explained. Production rates, costs and time requirements will also be explained. The talk will finish with your questions.
Frank Wolf has been a local historian from Mazomanie, Wisconsin for over 40 years. He has written eight local history books on topics that include early settlers, the founding of Mazomanie, the early railroad, and the Civil War. He has also been in the energetic materials business for 55 years, starting as an Army chemical engineer, stationed at the Tropic Test Center near the Panama Canal. He worked 31 years for Olin Corporation at BAAP as a chemical process engineer and Chief Modernization Engineer, where he managed the $385-million Badger Modernization Program for Olin Corporation. After retiring from BAAP, Frank moved to Canada for 14 years to manage an ammonium nitrate plant, then to Arizona for 5 years of industrial consulting. Frank has presented several Badger History Group lectures on production processes and serves as Board treasurer.
