Smart Urhiofe is the designer and maker behind Not Far Behind - a life choice to live by; we are either not far behind the destruction we are facing or we are not far behind from fixing the damages we’re causing from over production and pollution. The choice is ours. Using left over dead stock and most of the time damaged fabrics found from around the UK, NOT FAR BEHIND create simple and classic pieces to showcase the beauty of imperfections not just in fabrics or within the industry, but within ourselves.Essentially, NOT FAR BEHIND is based on positivity and optimism. The optimism to feel lost and say to yourself and others “Don’t worry, I’m not far behind”, “Keep calm, you are not far behind.”
Sandy Di Yu is Researcher at Yodomo, who are pioneering new ways to combat textile waste. By applying circular principles and systems thinking, Yodomo are transforming today’s damaging linear processes. Yodomo redistribute textile 'waste' from the interior design and fashion industries to a community of over 2,000 makers, who reimagine discarded materials into valuable products.
Their innovative approach and integration of emergent technologies earned them the Marie Claire 'Progress toward Circularity' award in 2023, and funding from the UK Government, SHIFT Innovation, and the Mayor of London.
Hannah Standen is co founder of Alterist - a new platform that unites a community of upcycled fashion designers, using creativity to drive change, transform waste and make a positive impact on our planet. Alterist mission is to reduce textile waste guided by their 5 "C's" values of - Creativity, Care, Circularity, Collaboration and Community. To date Alterist have offered their community of designers selling opportunities and "exposure" through their online shop, London 'pop ups' and recently a "Making is Hot" campaign featured in Dazed.
