"RAPID LETTERING" SIGN PAINTING WORKSHOP w GOLDEN WEST SIGNS

Join us for a 2-day Sign Painting workshop in the High Desert, Joshua Tree, California!

Renowned sign painter Ged Palmer @gedpalmer joins Derek McDonald to teach traditional sign painting techniques that require zero drafting: just quick, lively lettering straight from the brush! You will work in an active sign shop environment surrounded by Derek's historic collection, learning the mechanics of the brush and the expressive, single-stroke styles that defined 20th-century commercial art.

At the workshop, you’ll:

• Master essential brush control, body positioning, and "paletting" techniques.
• Learn a variety of "Casual", "Block" and "Script" styles..... and more!
• Learn to work quickly - this one is all about freeing up your hand!
• Explore layout, color theory, and traditional sign effects.
• Design and execute your own hand-painted sign from start to finish

What’s Included:

• 2 Mack signwriting brushes to take home
• Nicker Japanese gouache paint
• 32-page handbook with alphabets, layouts, and further reading

This workshop offers the chance to study in a working Sing Painting studio at Derek's workshop in Joshua Tree, California, in the heart of the high Mojave Desert. Accommodation and carpool details will be provided closer to the event. Lunch will be provided each day.
