PASTEL Workshop

Dry Pastel Painting Basics

Dry pastels are easy and fun. There are no brushes to clean, no messy oil residue, no odor.

Pastel paintings have a special look to them that is unlike any other medium. This class

will cover pastel materials, painting compositions, underpainting the ground, stroke

applications and painting the landscape: skies, trees, clouds.

Some drawing skills, a willingness to take instruction and learn, and perseverance are pluses.

We will work smaller, 11x14 , in order to complete a painting during the workshop time.

The instructor will assist students at their easels and a positive critique will be held just

prior to the end of the day.

Supply List:

Minimum: NuPastel 48 color set or a half-stick landscape set of Sennelier pastels from Dakota

Pastel www.Dakotapastels.com . UArt 400 grit pastel paper, masking tape, backing board, 6B

pencil or stick charcoal. NO OIL Pastels. No cheap pastels from Hobby Lobby, please!

Instructor will provide a good cross section of pastels in various brands for students to try.
