William David Pollard (aka Dave Pollard) is a Louisville, Kentucky based mixed media artist who's work he describes as Outsider Art. William has his own style, and William realls a gllaerist once describing it as "apocalyptic folk art,: which Pollard found to be an amusing and apt label for his visual language.
Pollard has been a part of the music and visual art scenes in Louisville sing the '90s, when William was notably a singer for both Evergreen and Four Rose Society. By the late '90s, he stepped away from music performance to focus more fully on visual art, though music has continued to influence his creative process.
Pollard's influenced and inspired by artists including Raymond Pettibone, Pushead, Gustave Doré, Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, Marcel Duchamp, Frank Kozik, Jean Delville, and others; as well as comic books, album art, show posters and band flyers.
Pollard builds his work mostly through layers- acrylic, collage, ink, oil sticks, prismacolors, Sharpies, etc. William is a co-founder of Metal Up Your Eye Art & Music Show, Southend Shindig (music + art), and the creator/co-owner of Ghostcat Studio, along side his friend, art colleague, and longtime collaborator Eric Rico Rakutt. Together they have collaborated on exhibitions, show posters, album art / layouts, and t-shirt designs. Pollard was a staple of the annual UnFair (an artist-driven response to the exclusivity of the St James Court Art Show) during it's early years along side many other artists who pushed back against traditional gallery norms. Art remains his primary outlet and he continues to live and work in Louisville, Kentucky. Current work od William's can be found both at Grady Goods on Barret Ave and Bartertown Road on Frankfort Avenue.
