On Sunday, February 2nd, Musicians on a Mission will host, “Lions & Tigers & Bears – All About Animals” OPEN MIC & FOOD DRIVE at the Belmar Arts Center from 11:30 – 4:00pm. Guest host will be Jim Ferrante.
Jim chose songs about animals for the theme of this open mic, which means you should do at least TWO songs that have to do with the theme, plus one more song (cover or original). This means that you will sing at least two songs that have to do with any kind of animal or any band that is named after an animal (including the Animals), like the Monkees, the Stray Cats, Cat Stevens, Buffalo Springfield or Los Lobos. You might like to try “Tie Me Kangaroo Down” or “Crocodile Rock” or “Bird Dog” by the Everly Brothers. But under no circumstances will anyone be allowed to sing, “Free Bird,” because we just don’t have time for that. There are so many songs that will fit this theme. You decide on three good songs and we'll listen. Just keep it at 12 minutes or under!
There will be a grand finale song for everyone to sing at the end of the day. Our finale song will be Peter, Paul and Mary’s, “Puff the Magic Dragon.” Here’s a link to a video with lyrics:
