"Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom," a documentary film screening & conversation
About this Event
Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom
Join Meetinghouse Revival for Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom, a powerful documentary film screening followed by an engaging conversation. This event is held in honor of Corsicana's Wesley Chapel CME and its 110th anniversary.
Featuring voices such as Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth, Christian rapper Lacrae, Pastor Rasool Berry, and Texas scholars and historians, Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom makes clear the enduring connection between the strength of the Black church and the vitality of Black communities. The film traces the history of the holiday that commemorates the end of slavery and shines a light on the faithful people who continue to press for freedom, both then and now. Join us after for a community conversation and red velvet cake.
Location TBA by May 28.
Suggested donation is $15, but no one will be turned away.
All proceeds go to our mission to preserve Black history in Corsicana and to restore the Wesley Chapel CME building in a storytelling lab and community archive. Show your support and ensure Wesley Chapel can last another 110 years! For more on this project visit www.meetinghouserevival.org/saving-wesley-chapel-cme .
