About this Event
Celebrate love, creativity, and a little sparkle in this hands-on Valentine’s jewelry workshop featuring fine silver precious metal clay. In this guided class, you’ll design and create your own heart-themed jewelry piece—choose from a pendant, charm, or pair of earrings—crafted entirely by hand. You’ll learn how to shape, texture, and refine precious metal clay before watching it transform into solid fine silver through firing. Add personal touches like surface patterns, initials, or symbolic details to make your piece truly meaningful. No prior jewelry-making experience is needed—just bring your creativity and a love for handmade treasures. Come with a friend or a date, leave with a one-of-a-kind fine silver heart jewelry piece and a memorable Valentine’s experience you’ll cherish long after the day is over.

Fingernail Moon Jewelry Studio is in FAVO - Faith Arts Village Orlando - a vintage 1950s era motel that has been converted into artist studios. Located just off Colonial Drive/Highway 50 near I-4, we are conveniently located at the north end of downtown Orlando. Using the address 718 Highland Ave. will take you to the first parking lot. To enter the facility, turn north on Highland from Colonial, there is a stoplight, and enter the second driveway on the left, through a black fence. You will see a sign that says "Park Lake Presbyterian Church, FAVO Art Studios". Proceed through the parking lot to the far right and rear and on through the driveway connecting to a second parking lot. You will see an L-shaped building with colorful doors - that's us! I am studio 237, second from the end upstairs on the right. Look for the moons!
Agenda
🕑: 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Introduction
Info: We'll take a few minutes to meet each other, and become familiar with the studio and the rules. Then we'll spend a little time finding out about precious metal clay: what it is, what you can do with it, what to expect when you start working with it.
🕑: 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Design and Practice
Info: We will take a little time to look at textures, templates, etc. and plan the designs for our pieces. But before breaking into the actual metal clay, we'll take a practice run with polymer clay.
🕑: 11:00 AM - 01:00 PM
Time to get BUSY!
Info: Now we will get to work! We will spend the next 2 hours creating our pieces with silver clay. By 1:00 we will have them ready to dry.
🕑: 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM
LUNCH
Info: Time for a lunch break. There is no food available at FAVO. However there are countless restaurants of every type and price within short drive of the studio.
🕑: 02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Refining and Firing
Info: Once we get back from lunch, our pieces will be fully dried and in the greenware stage. That means they are dry enough to handle. We will spend a little time refining, or sanding smooth and preparing for firing. Once ready, we will learn how to properly fire fine silver metal clay with a torch. Each student will use a small torch to fire their own piece.
🕑: 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Finishing
Info: Once the pieces have been fired and are metal, we will burnish and polish them. If desired, students may add a patina. Students may receive one pair of sterling silver ear wires or one silk or rubber cord for a pendant. AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL PIECE IS DONE!
