About this Event
Free as they want to be is a mixed-media exhibition that uses video and photography to consider the social lives of Black Americans during and after enslavement. Its curators Dr. Finley, Inaugural Director of the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective and Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Art & Visual Culture, and Dr. Willis, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, are renowned photography scholars who have published a plethora of art texts and curated exhibitions like My Soul Has Grown Deep: Black Art from the American South (Finley) and Posing Beauty: African American Images from the 1890s to the Present (Willis).
