"Echoes" is an original production written and performed by Samantha Ingram. This production is inspired by the life of her grandmother, Jessie Halsey. This performance follows a woman growing up in mid-century Appalachia, shaped by family bonds, coal mining culture, courtship and marriage, motherhood, hardship, and the quiet wisdom of later years. Through theatrical storytelling, character embodiment, and personal narrative, Samantha brings to life the textures of Appalachian childhood, the realities of coal mining-town life, and the enduring traditions that sustain mountain communities. As past and present intertwine, the piece expands one woman's story into a broader portrait of Appalachian heritage- celebrating regional identity, intergenerational memory, and the voices of a culture whose histories often go unnoticed.
This performance is family friendly, emotionally accessible, and carefully crafted to help preserve and highlight our culture. At its heart, this is a granddaughter carrying forward the story of where she comes from and the woman who shaped it.
This show serves as a tribute to the generations of Appalachian women whose stories deserve to be remembered.
