About this Event

Join Rainier Avenue Radio, King County, Duwamish Alive Coalition, and City of Tukwila for a FREE tour along the Duwamish River as part of the "Earth Deserves More Than A Day" event. This tour will focus on the environmental justice history, culture, stories, and community efforts past and present. The tour will span Cecil Moses Memorial Park and North Wind’s Weir, and then the group will drive over to Tukwila Community Center for lunch, rest, restroom breaks, and then finish off with either Chinook Wind’s Weir or Duwamish Gardens Park.

Please note there are 2 ticket types:

  • Vanpool from Columbia City Theater: This ticket reserves both a spot in a King County Metro Community Van leaving from Columbia City Theater at 10 AM for Cecil Moses Memorial Park, and a spot in the tour.
  • Meet at Cecil Moses Memorial Park: This ticket only reserves a spot in the tour. Ticketholders who choose this option must provide their own transportation to Cecil Moses Memorial Park by no later than 11 AM.

This event will be recorded for Rainier Avenue Radio. By registering for a ticket, you are providing consent to have photos/videos/audio taken and will be asked to sign a release form.

The Duwamish River Tour is part of a week-long series of programming as part of Rainier Avenue Radio's Earth Deserves More Than a Day. Go to EarthDeservesMoreThanADay.org for more events and details.

About the Duwamish River:

The Duwamish River is actually the Green-Duwamish River, one of the most complex watershed systems in the country. Its waters start in pristine forests in the shadow of Mt. Rainier which are cared for by the U.S. Forest Service. The river, as it winds down the mountain, travels through forests, agricultural land, residential areas, towns, commercial areas, and ends in heavy industry areas. As it proceeds to its mouth at Elliott Bay, it collects water from various tributaries and storm drains from the towns and cities which make up the Green-Duwamish Watershed. Much of this drainage has contributed to the significant pollution problems facing the river and its tributaries as they carry various chemicals into the river system.
