"Can You Outrun a Bad Diet? Why Diet and Moving Both Matter”
What matters more for our health – what we eat, or how much we move? And how much difference can simply moving more really make?
Join world-renowned Harvard evolutionary biologist Professor Daniel Lieberman for a fascinating exploration of the relationship between diet, physical activity and our long-term health.
Professor Lieberman is one of the world's leading experts on human evolution and physical activity. His research asks a deceptively simple question: what can the way humans evolved teach us about how we should live today?
Drawing on decades of research and ideas from his new book, Fed Up: What Evolution Reveals about Food, Diet and Eating Well, Professor Lieberman will explore the complex relationship between diet and exercise, why physical activity is so important for our health, and why even relatively small amounts of movement can be beneficial.
The lecture will also explore the thinking at the heart of Movement 26.2 – a new movement encouraging people to make brisk walking part of the everyday so they can live life better.
Its Marathon a Month challenge takes the distance that has traditionally represented an extraordinary feat of endurance - 26.2 miles - and reimagines it as something achievable by almost anyone when spread across a month.

About Professor Daniel Lieberman
Daniel E. Lieberman is the Edwin M. Lerner II Professor of Biological Sciences and Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. His research focuses on the evolution of human physical activity and its relevance to health, including walking and running, diet and ageing.
His new book, Fed Up: What Evolution Reveals about Food, Diet and Eating Well, uses evolutionary biology, anthropology and physiology to examine what science can – and cannot – tell us about eating well, health and weight.
Writing in The Sunday Times, James McConnachie described Fed Up as: "This could – should – be the last diet book you will need. It's colourful, readable, personable, richly informed, expert and just, well… right."
An opportunity to hear from one of the world's foremost experts on human evolution about food, physical activity and why moving more matters.
