We invite you to a screening of the Dutch short film "Breaking Walls" and a discussion with filmmaker Jan-Dirk Bouw and Baltic queer activists
What is the film about?
Journalist and human rights activist Hoi Yi fights against the growing global surveillance and censorship.
Hoi Yi is queer, but he has to hide his identity from his family. His personal experience of oppression is reflected in his commitment to defending the freedom of others.
“Breaking Walls” is a new Dutch animated documentary that premiered in February 2026 and has already won the Best Animation Award at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand Documentary Film Festival in France.
Languages: Dutch, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese
The film will be screened with Estonian and Russian subtitles.

This event is part of the Baltic Pride 2026 program. The film screening is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Estonia.

Hoi Yi on gei, kuid peab seda oma perekonna eest varjama. Tema isiklik kogemus rõhumisest peegeldub tema soovis seista teiste inimeste vabaduse eest.
“Müüre lõhkudes” on uus Hollandi animadokumentaal, mille esilinastus toimus 2026. aasta veebruaris ning mis on juba pälvinud parima animatsiooni auhinna mainekal Clermont-Ferrandi dokumentaalfilmide festivalil Prantsusmaal.
