On Sunday, October, 5, 5PM, the choirs of Anchorage Presbyterian, St. Luke’s Episcopal, and Epiphany Catholic Churches come together to present a hymn festival. With hymns both familiar and new, Anchored in Song: A Festival of Sacred Melodies will be an hour of boisterous singing both from the combined choirs and the choirs joined by the congregation, accompanied by the organ and string orchestra.
This hymn festival is co-sponsored by the Louisville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary! They will be hosting a festive reception following the event.
Beginning with Florence Price’s “Adoration” for organ and strings, the festival continues with congregational hymns such as Christ Mighty Savior, Let All the World in Every Corner Sing, Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah and A Stable Lamp is Lighted. The choir will sing several anthems based on hymn tunes, concluding with everyone singing When in Our Music God Is Glorified, arr. by Mark Wilberg.
There are a few spaces left for singers that would like to join the choir. Please contact Dr. Robert L. Bozeman to sign up to sing. We are limited to 50 singers total due to space, so reach out soon if you are interested.
This is a free event, though an offering will be collected. Please share with your choir and congregation.
