Experience stories of the North through a different kind of book club, one where the setting is the gallery itself. The Anchorage Museum Book Club meets quarterly to read and reflect on books that deepen our understanding of the Circumpolar North. Each selection connects to museum exhibitions or collections, and each discussion takes place in the gallery most aligned with the book’s themes. This public program is open to anyone; no need to attend every session, just register for the dates that interest you. While we don’t serve snacks (we’re in the galleries), each discussion includes a mini-tour of related objects led by museum staff, making the experience especially tied to place.
This month’s book is “The Firecracker Boys: H-Bombs, Inupiat Eskimos, and the Roots of the Environmental Movement”, which tells the story of the U.S. government’s plan to detonate six nuclear bombs off the Alaska coast and the people who fought against it.
Recommended for adults. Included with admission; registration required.
