About this Event

The ancestors are all those – human and otherwise – who lived before us, the life of the past that nourishes our present. More specifically, they are the souls or spirits of past lives, and our species' collective love, wisdom, and suffering over the last several hundred thousand years. Ancestors of blood tend to be especially impactful. When we learn about plant medicines, we are mindful to access the spirit of our ancestral history. Ancestor reconnection and reverence is a worldwide, timeless form of relationship.

Join Lou Sagar and the knowledgable staff at The Alchemist's Kitchen for a guided exploration of a curated selection of ancestral plant remedies.

We'll taste and learn about:

  • Kanna: Kanna is a hardy, woody succulent with bright green leaves and found in the deserts of South Africa. It is an indigenous sacred plant, having been used in ceremony for thousands of years by the San and Khoi people. Kanna is classified as an empathogenic intended to increase feelings of empathy and connectivity towards others, it’s use in small doses may assist to become less reactive to triggers that escalate anxiety and help maintain grounded, heart-centered balance.
  • Cacao: Our Cacao Heart Tincture is a recipe from the Amazon, made locally in small batches in Bahia, Brazil. It consists of a blend of cacao, vanilla, and roses using a triple spagyric extraction. The tincture has vasodilatory properties, which relax and allow the muscular walls of the arteries to widen. This increases blood flow, reducing blood pressure. Cacao is often used as a heart opener and grounding tool.
  • Mad Honey: Mad Honey specifically from Nepal, is one of the rarest honey sources in the world, and known for its intoxicating properties. What makes Mad Honey distinctive is the presence of grayanotoxins, which are naturally occurring plant toxins that are produced by certain types of rhododendron plants and their specific location. The giant bees extract nectar and pollens from a distinctive type of Rhododendron flower which consists of this chemical compound. The quality is indicative by its dark color.
  • Hape': Hapé (pronounced Rah-pay or Ha-pay ) is an ancestral blend of sacred, medicinal plants used in grounding ceremony. Traditionally experienced as a snuff powder, we have developed a special Liquid Hape' inhalation process with a dear women's collective from South America. Our Hape' is sprayed onto the hands and slowly inhaled, acting as a meditative ritual to close out the evening.

Tickets price includes entry, samplings, and a botanical elixir tasting.

About: Lou Sagar

Lou Sagar is the Founder and CEO of The Alchemist’s Kitchen based in New York City.

In 2016, he recognized the need to create a trust-based contemporary brand focused on plant-based health and wellness. Motivated by a belief that the societal perception of Cannabis and Psychedelics could be changed from a "Gateway to Addictive Drugs" to the recognition that "Plants and Mushrooms Heal".

In 2017, the Alchemist’s Kitchen was birthed with a flagship apothecary in New York, complemented with events, workshops, and classes. Today, the company is staffed with a small but passionate team including herbalists, and mycologists with an active curation of best-in-class herbal and medicinal mushroom remedies from the finest makers, farms, and workshops located throughout the United States.
