An Upper Thames Branch Guided Walk at NT Maidenhead Thicket, Berks.

Maidenhead Thicket was once part of a Royal Manor and a notorious haunt of highwaymen. It is now managed by the National Trust and supports one of the largest areas of wooded common in our area. Extensive rides and footpaths give access to rich habitats and a healthy diversity of wildlife.

We will explore the area, looking for summer butterflies and day-flying moths. We will spend some time searching areas of suitable elm and oak, hoping to see the elusive White-letter Hairstreak and the rather more widespread Purple Hairstreak.

Accessibility & risks: mostly flat with some gentle slopes. Many of the paths are wide and firm but can be muddy after rain. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks.
