Join us for a night of Homer and heroism as we celebrate the release of the deluxe edition of Gareth Hinds’ THE ODYSSESY: A GRAPHIC NOVEL!
About this Event

Acclaimed by critics and educators for his graphic novels based on literary classics, including The Odyssey and Illiad, Gareth will be in conversation with Kenny Curtis and Jillian Hughes, the father-and-daughter team behind National Geographic Kids’ wildly popular GREEKING OUT podcast and books. The three will talk about their favorite gods, heroic deeds, and mishaps, while Gareth delves into his creative process for bringing The Odyssey to life.

Following the conversation, Gareth will treat us to a live draw! The group will then take questions from the audience and stay to personalize copies of their books.

A pre-signed hardcover copy of the deluxe edition of THE ODYSSEY: A GRAPHIC NOVEL is included with your ticket. There is also the option for an add-on companion ticket. Additional copies of all three authors’ books will be available for purchase.

Adults of children under 12 must remain on the premises, though if they do not wish to purchase a ticket they are welcome to wait in the adult store.

About The Odyssey: A Graphic Novel (Deluxe Edition):

With bold imagery and an ear tuned to the music of Homer’s epic poem, award-winning graphic artist Gareth Hinds reinterprets the ancient classic as it’s never been told before. A New York Times bestseller, now in a sumptuous collectible edition with new cover design, gold foil, and stenciled edges.

Fresh from his triumphs in the Trojan War, Odysseus, king of Ithaca, wants nothing more than to return home to his family. Instead, he offends the sea god, Poseidon, who dooms him to years of shipwreck and wandering. Battling man-eating monsters, violent storms, and the supernatural seductions of sirens and sorceresses, Odysseus will need all his strength and cunning—and a little help from Mount Olympus—to make his way home and seize his kingdom from the schemers who seek to wed his queen and usurp his throne. Gareth Hinds masterfully reinterprets a story of heroism, adventure, and high action that has been told and retold for more than 2,500 years—though never quite like this.

About Gareth Hinds:

Gareth Hinds is the creator of critically-acclaimed graphic novels based on literary classics, including Beowulf, The Odyssey, The Iliad, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, and POE: Stories and Poems.” Gareth is a recipient of the Boston Public Library’s “Literary Lights for Children” award. His books can be found in bookstores and English classrooms across the country, and his illustrations have appeared in such diverse venues as the Society of Illustrators, the New York Historical Society, and over a dozen published video games. He lives in the DC area.

About Kenny Curtis and Jillian Hughes:

Kenny Curtis has more than 30 years in children's programming as a performer, writer, and producer. He is one of the creators of National Geographic Kids' Greeking Out podcast series, which he hosts and cowrites alongside his daughter, Jillian Hughes. Together, Kenny and Jillian have helped develop a number of well-known kids' content offerings for partners and platforms like Pinna, Tinkercast, Kidz Bop, and 8 Pound Gorilla Records. But Kenny may be best known as the human behind the long-running radio program The Animal Farm on SiriusXM's original family music channel, Kids Place Live.

Jillian Hughes is a professional writer with her heart in the kids and family industry. She's a writer for National Geographic Kids' Greeking Out podcast series and has contributed to other platforms including Pinna, Tinkercast, and iHeart. She also works as a copywriter crafting marketing collateral for numerous industries. While she enjoys working with all her clients, she is especially partial to collaborating with Kenny--who just happens to be her dad.
