During the session you will learn to:
• · Stretch a piece of silk to a painting frame using pins
• · Sketch an outline drawing on silk using gutta
• · Add silk paints to the silk by dropping on colours of different strengths
• · Mix new colours
• · create different textures using salt crystals
• · Fix your work using an iron
Materials required: 50cm square silk cloth, silk frame, silk pins, silk paints, tube of gutta, salt crystals, mixing palette, brushes,
Costs:
£70.00
You will take home your completed design and a selected pre-printed greeting card painted on silk. You can turn your design into a picture or cushion cover.
When you arrive on the course you will need to begin drawing your chosen design in gutta onto the silk as soon as possible, as this takes a while to dry. It is therefore important to come with an idea in mind and a sketch drawn out which you can transfer. The tutor has sketches available which can be viewed on the next Open Day. It needs to be dry before you can apply paints. Whilst your work with gutta is drying, we will explore different ways to apply the silk paint by making a shared composite design and also an individual pre-printed card design. We will investigate the effect of different salts on the designs too. Silk paint is quite free-flowing so the outcomes are variable and not fully controllable. After lunch- which can be taken at your leisure – the gutta should be dried enough to work on to completion.
