An intimate afternoon with the Riverside Orchestra IN-PERSON AT DOROT
About this Event
An Intimate Afternoon of Chamber Music with the Riverside Orchestra
Experience the beauty and intimacy of chamber music with five talented musicians from the Riverside Orchestra. Featuring flute, violin, viola, cello, and piano, this special performance will explore the rich traditions of Baroque and Classical music, bringing audiences closer to the melodies, harmonies, and musical conversations that make chamber music so captivating.
The concert will include Telemann's Quartet in G minor for flute, violin, viola, 'cello and continuo. Written in 1730, this was one of the first set of six of Telemann's twelve later named "Paris Quartets". The quartet is actually played by five players, with the continuo played by a keyboard player assisted by a 'cellist and counted as one member of the quartet. This will be followed by Ernst Bloch's Suite Modale for flute and piano written in 1956. Bloch's musical voice was strongly influenced by his Jewish identity. This piece in Neobaroque style features both Greek and Jewish modes.
Our afternoon will end with Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor (1785). Commissioned by Hoffmeister, his publisher, to write three piano quartets, this is the first of two. It was the first Classical piece for this instrumentation, but set a precedent for future composers such as Brahms and Schumann. Because the amateurs of his day found the music very difficult, Mozart did not write the third!
