Join Librarian Kayla Lar-Son for an evening with renowned fashion designer Rebecca Baker-Grenier, award-winning author and filmmaker Julian Brave NoiseCat, and acclaimed climate scientist and activist Janna Wale.

The evening will begin with a Traditional Welcome offered by Chepximiya Siyam’ Chief Dr. Janice George.

Rebecca Baker-Grenier, Kwakiuł, Dzawada’enuxw, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, is a multidisciplinary artist with a BA in Indigenous Studies from the University of British Columbia. Rebecca represents her cultural identity through a contemporary artistic medium with the aim of empowering Indigenous people and strengthening the artform. Since debuting her first collection at New York Fashion Week in 2022, her work has been presented on runways across Canada and the US. Her work has also been exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History, Bill Reid Gallery, and Museum of Vancouver. Rebecca was featured in the October 2024 issue of Elle Canada and she received the Polygon Award by BC Achievement Foundation, 2025.

Julian Brave NoiseCat is a writer, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, champion powwow dancer, and student of Salish art and history. His writing has appeared in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The New Yorker. NoiseCat has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2022 American Mosaic Journalism Prize and many National Native Media Awards. He was a finalist for the Livingston Award and multiple Canadian National Magazine Awards and was named to the TIME100 Next list in 2021. His first documentary, , was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Directed alongside Emily Kassie, SUGARCANE premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where NoiseCat and Kassie won the Directing Award for U.S. Documentary. NoiseCat is a proud member of the Canim Lake Band Tsq’escen and descendant of the Lil’wat Nation of Mount Currie. is his first book.

Janna Wale is a Gitxsan (Gitanmaax First Nation) & Cree-Métis climate research leader, policy advisor, and speaker advancing Indigenous-led approaches to climate action. Her work sits at the intersection of Indigenous leadership, climate science, and public policy. She works to bridge Indigenous and Western knowledge systems and supports ethical, relational approaches to climate action across government, research, and policy spaces. She advises, writes, and speaks widely, and is known for her commitment to reciprocity, relational accountability, and doing climate work in a good way. She holds a bachelor of Natural Resource Sciences (B. Nrsc.) from Thompson Rivers University, and a Masters in Science (M.Sc.) in Interdisciplinary Sustainability from the University of British Columbia – Okanagan.

Kayla Lar-Son is a Metis/Ukrainian librarian from amiskwaciy and currently living on the traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) peoples. She is the interim head of the Xwi7xwa library, and former co-host of masinahikan iskwêwak – Book Women Podcast.

Chepximiya Siyam’ Chief Dr. Janice George is an hereditary chief from the Squamish Nation. She is a master weaver, educator, and trained museum curator. Chief Dr. Janice George received her Honorary Doctorate from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2025 for her dedication to sharing Coast Salish weaving and culture with her community and the world.
