An Evening with Nancy Stone: Indigo Hours

Please join us for a very special evening with Vermont artist and author Nancy Stone. Nancy will be discussing her award-winning book, Indigo Hours: Healing Haiku, a lyrical, profound, and playful book of haiku poems with original scratchboard drawings from an artist thrust into the role of care partner after her husband's diagnosis of "likely Alzheimer's."

Nancy took life for granted-until she was thrust into the unchosen role of caregiver for her spouse of fifty years. Her husband's decline has changed every aspect of their relationship-except their love. In poems that show the change of emotions along with insights for coping with loss and grief and the metaphor found in nature-water, light and shadow-Stone breaks down the silence and stigma associated with dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, and offers a calming guide for others dealing with the devastation and exhaustion of caregiving. Her poems and art offer glimmers of gratitude, courage, and resilience for moving forward with love in your heart during challenging times.

Indigo Hours was named a 2024 Benjamin Franklin Silver Award winner for poetry by the Independent Book Publishers Association.

Nancy Stone is an award winning painter and book artist who taught art at Williston Central School, Vermont Commons School, and Community College of Vermont. Her paintings, mixed media works, and handmade books reflect playful experimentation and imagination. She is a member of the Northern Vermont Artists Association (NVAA) and a Signature Member of the Vermont Watercolor Society (VWS). She co-founded, and is a member of, the Book Arts Guild of Vermont (BAG). She was art program director of Children’s Art Exchange (USA/USSR) and art teacher for Vermont’s chapter of Kids4Peace International where she taught Muslim, Christian and Jewish children from Palestine, Israel, and the USA. She is the author of 251 Vermont Vistas, a book of her watercolor paintings documenting visits to each of Vermont’s 251 towns; the original painted ‘postcards’ are in the University of Vermont’s Special Collection.
