Join us for a special Speaker Series event at the historic Larz Anderson Auto Museum featuring author Eddy Inserra and his cousin, Bobby Pastore.
Eddy and Bobby will share the remarkable true story of their grandfather and uncle, Fred G. Pastore—a major force within the IRS during the 1950s who was tasked with helping dismantle Boston’s organized crime network.
A decade ago, Eddy’s mother gave him an old Florida orange crate filled with documents covering the first half of Fred’s career. Eddy had known his grandfather only until the age of eight, when Fred passed away. What Eddy and Bobby uncovered inside that box was extraordinary: secret files, confidential informant records, FBI wiretaps, and IRS investigative notes concerning some of the era’s most notorious Mafia figures and racketeers.
The files chronicled investigations involving Jerry Angiulo and his brothers, Raymond Patriarca, Doc Sagansky, Frank Iaconi, Frank Cucchiara, Bernie McGarry, Steve Flemmi, and many others. Raised in East Boston, Fred found himself pursuing racketeers in his old neighborhood, throughout the North End, across Massachusetts—and even in Brookline.
Fred also became embroiled in a nationally reported public dispute with Robert F. Kennedy over the Bernard Goldfine case. Kennedy pressured Fred to reveal the identity of a confidential informant, but Fred refused. He ultimately resigned in dramatic fashion and took the informant’s identity with him—or so everyone believed.
More than half a century later, Eddy and Bobby uncovered the truth.
